Kathmandu valley rim bird watching includes of its hills stations from Phulchowki towards the south of Kathmandu valley and the botanical garden at the foot of it and Nagarjun-Shivapuri national park towards the north which is a protected area.
Despite the concrete jungle in Kathmandu it still homes some endangered and beautiful species of birds and animals.Phulchowki the highest hill amongst the surrounding hill of Kathmandu towers up to 2791 m and is a perfect summer and winter retreat for the people of Kathmandu valley. It is home for several species of birds and butterflies. Phulchowki can either be accessed on foot by hiking to the top or taking a vehicle. The distance in between Phulchowki and Kathmandu is around 20km and within this small distance there are several 100 species of birds available. Adjacent to the foot of Phulchowki on the northern side is the botanical garden of Godavari. Godavari Botanical garden is a protected area with artificial green houses and a pond. It is home for 100 species of birds and many plants.
Along with Shivapuri, the largest protected area in the surrounding of Kathmandu valley, none other than Shivapuri-Nagarjun national park, is home of birds in abundance. The national park is easily spotted from any corners of valley of Kathmandu. The protected area is a widely spread lush green forest and runs from the western rim to all the way to the eastern side. The area homes many endangered species of flora, fauna and birds as well. An easy walk on the trails and best birdwatching trip in Nepal without having to break back.
