Tsum valley is a small valley and a trekking destination in Nepal, tucked in between Singri himalaya range and Ganesh himal. Known to very view Tsum is known as hidden valley of happiness. Surrounded by high himalayas beyond the tall brown hills, decorated by prayer flags, significant buddhist prayers carved on stones and walls exudes happiness and contributes in living up to the tagline the place is awarded.
Tsum valley is still a restricted area and requires special permit. The fragile eco system which is very difficult to maintain was one of the few reasons why this hidden valley of happiness was not accessible by travellers. Since 2003, when Tsum was open for the world, it started gaining its popularity and even till the day there are only few interested travellers who visit.
People of Tsum are known as Tsumbas. Tsumbas are very warm as well as very religious people who are in traditional agriculture. Tourism is neither a major source of economy nor a concept yet for the people living there which is why there are no lodges and tea houses but only homestays. Besides agriculture, they are as well involved in weaving and spinning wool into thread by hand. You would be surprised to see that people on every day or several times in a day gather in a common venue to discuss daily agendas or problems. Every single decision for individual household or the entire village is taken by mass meetings.
Tsum also has many temples and buddhist monasteries. Since it is very close to Tibet the culture, festivals and religion exudes Tibetan influence in every way. This is one of the very few treks in Nepal which is short as well as not commercialized and showcases true Himalayan culture of unique indigenous community. Book this once in life trip today!
