Gokyo

Gokyo is a small village in the Khumbu region, on the foot of Gokyo Ri and on the shore of Dudh Pokhari. It basically is a cluster of houses, which is a little smaller than a village. It is located at an elevation 4750 meters making it one of the highest settlements in the world. It is not a permanent settlement and remains open in the trekking season to offer accommodation to trekkers.

There are six lakes in the Gokyo valley and the first one you will see before reaching the teahouses is Longponga Tsho, the second river is Taboche Tsho and then finally to the Gokyo village settled by the 3rd lake namely Dudh Pokhari. The valley also has 3 other lakes namely Thonak Tsho, Ngozumpa Tsho and finally Gyazumba Tsho. The last lake is not frequented by travellers as it is amidst of gripping glacier of Cho Oyu.

The rest area offers an excellent view of emerald colored lake and one of the world’s highest mountain Cho Oyu.
